Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings
In 2020, IU Indianapolis was ranked the no. 2 university in the nation for our commitment to advancing the SDGs. In 2021, IU Indianapolis maintained their Top 10 in the US and Top 10% in the world ranking. THE Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the SDGs by using carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across research, outreach, and stewardship.
Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS)
IU Indianapolis is a STARS Gold Rated institution since 2019. With a score of 70.57, IU Indianapolis is the highest rated and most sustainable institution in the state of Indiana. STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System) is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
The Indiana University system is proud to have more LEED certified buildings than any university in the Big Ten due to our commitment to certify all new buildings as LEED Gold. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a program of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the most widely used green building rating system in the world.
Tree Campus Higher Education
IU Indianapolis has been a certified Tree Campus Higher Education university since 2012. A program of the Arbor Day Foundation, the Tree Campus Higher Education program helps colleges and universities around the country establish and sustain healthy community forests while actively engaging the campus community in learning about native trees.
Bee Campus USA
IU Indianapolis became the 31st educational institution in the United States to be certified as a Bee Campus USA in 2017. IU Indianapolis is the first state university in Indiana, and the first IU campus, to earn this designation. The Bee Campus USA program endorses a set of commitments for creating a sustainable habitat for pollinators that are vital to feeding the planet.
