IU Indianapolis is a signatory of the University Global Coalition, a global platform of universities and other higher education organizations committed to working together and in partnership with the United Nations (through UNITAR), SDSN, and other relevant organizations, in support of the Sustainable Development Goals both locally and globally through our education, research, and service missions.
Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)
In 2018, Indiana University became a founding member of the U.S. chapter of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), an alliance of United States universities working together to create global sustainable societies.
Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)
IU Indianapolis has been a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) since 2008. AASHE is the leading association for the advancement of sustainability in higher education. They serve a full range of higher education faculty, administrators, staff and students who are change agents and drivers of sustainability innovation.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partner
IU Indianapolis has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an Individual Conference Champion of the College & University Green Power Challenge for using more green power than any school in the Horizon League since 2013.
U.S. Green Building Council
IU Indianapolis is a proud member of the U.S. Green Building Council, supporting their commitment to a sustainable, prosperous, future through LEED, the leading program for green buildings and communities worldwide.
Green Sports Alliance
IU Indianapolis is a proud member of the Green Sports Alliance (GSA). In 2017, GSA awarded IU Indianapolis as one of its Environmental Innovators of the Year, recognizing the school’s achievement in transforming the IU Natatorium into the first athletic facility in Indiana to achieve zero waste and the first host of an Olympic event to attain a zero-waste designation.
Indiana Recycling Coalition/Indiana Circular Economy Initiative
IU Indianapolis is a proud member of the Indiana Recycling Coalition (IRC) whose mission is to strengthen the circular economy in Indiana including waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting through education and advocacy. IU Indianapolis was a founding member of the IRC’s Indiana Circular Economy Initiative, a state-wide stakeholder group whose mission is to eliminate food waste in Indiana.
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Adopt-A-Block
As of 2019, IU Indianapolis is the largest Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) Adopt-a-Block Captain, adopting all 68 blocks of campus. As an Adopt-a-Block Captain, IU Indianapolis has committed to being a good steward of the natural environment on our campus in downtown Indianapolis.
